Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Classes
We run classes 7 days a week at different times of the day (early morning, mid-morning, afternoon and evening. From FIFO to tradies, to office workers and shift workers, our comprehensive schedule has something for you.
We cater for juniors from 4 years old to adults of all ages. Beginners are most welcome to any class (apart from the 1 hour sessions which require greater experience), but initially we recommend our dedicated beginners classes which run 3 times a week (please check schedule). One of these beginner classes focuses on Takedowns a very fast evolving part of jiujitsu and which is crucial to any well-rounded grapplers game.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is growing more popular with both females too!
We are proud to have a large and growing number of female members participating in our classes.
Although a male-dominated sport we are able to have new female participants partner with one of our more experienced female BJJ practitioners to ensure they feel comfortable as they enter the world of grappling.
Fusion is proud to be owned and operated by the only female Brazilian Jiujitsu brown belt in Cairns, and boasts several purple and blue belts within the female ranks and this number is only growing as BJJ becomes more widely known.
Females are made to feel comfortable at all classes and are able to slot into any regular class.
By training Brazilian Jiujitsu a female would know how to defend herself in a dangerous situation, how to keep herself safe in what would normally be considered very disadvantageous positions (for example on the ground on your back). Most importantly, by training regularly she would also build the muscle memory to be able to severely injure or render her attacker unconsious without the common flight or freeze reaction taking control.
Brazilian Jiujitsu does not rely on size or strength so is the ultimate weapon for women and children.
Brazilian Jiujitsu will give you self-confidence, increase your sense of well-being and make all other areas of your life better as you feel empowered, strong and resilient. It can help alleviate stress and forms a type of meditation which is excellent for mental and physical health. For females it is an excellent way to cope with post-partum depression and other forms of anxiety and mental health issues.
What to wear in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class
“Gi” classes are taught wearing a “Gi” sometimes referred to as a “Kimono” and is more sport focused using the gi to perform various chokes and submissions.
“No Gi” classes are taught wearing normal workout type clothing and is more dynamic and fast-paced due to the reduced ability to create “holds” without the “Gi”. Shorts and rash guard shirt is ideal to wear however a normal close-fitting t-shirt can also be worn.
