What is the age range for Kids Muay Thai?
Kids Muay Thai is available for children from 7 to 12 years of ages. Ages 13 and up are welcome to attend our beginners muay thai classes.
What skills will my child learn?
This class teaches striking skills (kicking and punching)
with a strong focus on correct technique to ensure good habits are created from the beginning. Bodyweight fitness exercises also make up part of the class to ensure kids work out their energy in a positive way and leave feeling great. These classes are excellent to develop character and confidence, as well as coordination and fitness in a child.
Is Muay Thai like kickboxing?
Yes… sort of. Muay Thai is often referred to as kick boxing but there are some vital differences. Muay Thai involves punches, elbows, kicks, knees and clinch work where as kickboxing is punches and kicking only.
Who takes the classes?
Our kids muay thai classes are taken by our head striking coach, Paul Hosking.
Paul has over 8 years of experience in Muay Thai, he is an Cairns local fighter and he holds the former World Muay Thai Council Queensland state champion before he retired in 2020 to fully focus on his student’s.
Can my child come try it out before I sign them up?
Of course! We want to make sure your child is comfortable and having fun at all times. For all new students we offer a two week intro trial. That way they can come and trial Boxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before deciding which class to enrol in.
What shall I bring to the first session?
We are able to provide boxing gloves for their trial sessions but after that you will need to purchase some.
Come along wearing any active wear without zips or buckles on and bring a water bottle. We recommend all our students to purchase our Muay Thai uniform once they are a member.
Make sure you don’t forget a water bottle!
Do you have grading in Muay Thai?
Muay Thai doesn’t traditionally have a grading system but here at Fusion we feel that hard work and consistency should be rewarded.
Coach Paul has been developing a grading system over the course of 2 years. Our Muay Thai kids grade on a 4 week cycle (not including school holidays).
Our unique grading structure tested each child on their:
– The Martial Way
Do you have any Junior Muay Thai fighters?
We currently have a few of our Muay Thai kids who are interested in competing.
However, this class is for children who want to learn techniques, get fit and have fun! If your child shows an interest in competing in fight shows then Paul will make arrangements for them to join our Fighters class.
Here are Fusion Cairns we cater for everyones Muay Thai needs!
